Virginia Internet High School An Internet Schools, Inc. affiliate |
The Virginia Internet High School and Internet Schools, Inc. design, equip, and lease online eClassrooms and eOffices to K-12 schools. Fully operational, the Internet Schools facilities are ready for immediate use by renters and their roster members. With a few minutes of instruction obtained in an Internet Schools eClassroom, renters can create rosters and begin publishing WordPerfect, Word or HTML documents with graphics and audio in their own facilities. K-12 schools now have the means and resources to maintain continuous, two-way communication with students, parents, and colleagues via the Internet. Although the Internet Schools has the ablility to make every conventional classroom and school office accessible via the Internet, many questions about how to achieve this goal remain.
Educators and students should only be expected to accept the new online facilities when they have become comfortable with this environment and find some personal advantage for using it. Thus, the leadership and encouragement provided by central office officials and building principals is critical. By regularly posting meeting agendas, newsletters, and announcements in an eOffice, leaders can acquaint fellow administrators and teachers with the online facility. This introduction may even occasionally include an online "principals meeting," "faculty meeting," or "department meeting." Online "meetings" present the opportunity for roster members to discuss matters among themselves in the "Meeting Room." Each visit to an online facility will increase the likelihood that visitors will see the value of online communications and want an office or classroom of their own.
School officials may also want to encourage teachers to explore the eClassroom as a classroom management tool. Teachers who post their lessons and assignments in their online classrooms may be given authority to remove and instruct disruptive students online from a computer station outside the conventional classroom.
An additional attraction of the Internet Schools facilities is the vast array of up-to-date instructional and administrative resources provided in the eClassrooms and eOffices. The availability of the Internet Schools "College Shopper's Guides exclusively in these online facilities should also help to attract students and parents. Limited Internet and computer experience need not keep school officials and teachers from making their classrooms and offices Internet accessible.
The "introductory price" for each eClassroom and eOffice is $120 per year. Additional secondary classrooms for each teaching period are offered at a special rate of $12 each per year. If these "introductory prices" hold, the total cost for most schools to put every teacher and administrator online should not exceed the school's annual "copying costs" Go to the eRental Office for product and pricing information.
School officials and teachers need to submit a completed division purchase order and an Internet Schools online eOffice or eClassroom Order Form. The Internet Schools rented facility will be placed online upon receipt of the completed purchase order and may be occupied for 12 months assuming payment within 60 days.
